According to Trump, “Americans” are being “left behind” by a lack of wage increases due to “burdensome” taxes and regulations exacted upon corporate businesses and over-involvement of the federal government in the private lives of citizens. He blames the former administration for the creation of debt using World War II as a reference:
“The previous administration’s economic policies resulted in a near doubling of the national debt from $10.6 trillion in 2009 to nearly $20 trillion in 2016.”
“From World War II to 2007, the average fourth quarter-over-fourth quarter growth rate was 3.5 percent. Over the last nine years, average growth has been 1.3 percent.”
Here’s a clue Trump: Obama didn’t start the “War on Terrorism” that you not only plan to continue but expand by increasing funding to the Department of Defense. He also is not responsible for the housing crisis that occurred due to home loans being approved with high interest rates followed by a “recession.” And last, but not least, he is also not responsible for the exportation of jobs to other countries. That was all happening BEFORE Obama became president. So, cut the shit.
Moving on. So how do we take the ramblings of a tangerine tinted narcissistic asshole and turn it into Black Empowerment? There is not simple answer to that question but the language I am about to expose in this year’s budget proposal should light a fire of self-sufficiency and preparation under some our behinds.
We already know that it isn’t the black community that is draining the federal government of resources when it comes to assistance programs such as SNAP and section 8. However, there are some government programs on the chopping block that have given some in our community a leg up in the past that we should be aware of, such as:
That’s right. This is one of the programs that has indirectly been labeled as “poorly targeted” under the umbrella of TRIO programs that provide resources to prospective students and their families. All this means is that we must continue and expand our communicative efforts to educate and support each other.
BLOCK GRANTS FOR HOME OWNERS
Trump’s budget targets quite a few block grants across the board. A block grant is money that can be used for a wide range of services. This budget targets block grant programs designed to help low income families afford homes.
JOB TRAINING PROGRAMS
The budget will eliminate $403 million in health care professionals and nursing training programs on the grounds that they “lack evidence that they significantly improve the Nation’s heath workforce. While at the same time will continues to support and provide loan assistance in exchange for service in “areas of the United States where there is a shortage of health professionals.”
SENIOR CITIZEN EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMS
He’s even going for the old folks. This budget proposes to “eliminate” the Senior Community Service Employment Program on the grounds that it is “ineffective” in moving seniors on to non-subsidized employment.
Besides government programs the budget addresses certain rights and abilities of the “American” that will stand to change. Including:
As a part of the revision to the Department of Justice the budget proposes that the FBI put forth 9 billion toward firearm purchase background checks. This seems like a remedy for the increase in mass shootings by crazy white folk but the language suggests otherwise. The budget proposes this allocation to “develop and refine evidence and data to target violent crime in some cities and communities.”
There used to be a time that if you didn’t have a criminal history you weren’t in the database. That time is over. Trumps instructs the Department of Defense to work with the FBI in enhancing and expanding “biometric identity resolution, research, and development.” We already know that our right to privacy is an illusion (before Snowden told us) but now we might have more people gathering info. Please folks, ditch the fingerprint access phones and lap tops. It’s not worth it.
…And now for the White Supremacy
I couldn’t help but giggle when I saw the budget allocating funding specifically to grants targeting opiod addiction. Because when it happens to “Americans” it is an epidemic. Also I’m sure these “Americans” have been depressed since they haven’t gotten a raise in while.
If you have the time, please read the budget or at least skim it. You can find it at the OMB (Office of Management and Budget) website. It is highly unlikely that it will survive Congress in its current state but it is interesting in its own right. I don’t know about you guys but the changes in the Department of Agriculture alone is enough to make me want to grow my own food.
I’m going to watch a movie and take a nap. The research for this ISH wore me out.
